SAINT JOSEPH PARISH COUNCIL

MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF MARCH 8, 2009

 

 

No minutes from the February 8th meeting were available to approve.

 

Election Report:

·        11 names presented by Charles Dolan

-12th name submitted by Father Juan Carlos, he has submitted earlier in the month, but was not on the list

·        Candidates will be contacted to qualify them by Charles and David

·        Deadline for biography is March 22nd

·        Election set to take place on April 25th and 26th, second round TBD

·        One candidate will be qualified by Father McGuiness

·        Candidate slate will be approved once qualification has been verified

 

By-Laws:

·        Proposed revisions have been underlined in current By-Laws

·        Expectations of council members are set moving forward

·        Request of absence in future meetings by council member to the president

·        Added revision proposal for Parish employees to be allowed on council moving forward

o       Could be possible limitations in council discussions if parish employees are present

o       Due diligence is needed to determine if Archdiocese has policy for employees being members of Parish Council

o       Revision brought forth in an effort to allow teachers at St. Joseph School to serve on Parish Council

Nursery:

·        Report has been previously sent on email with design layout

·        Masses to utilize the nursery would include: 10:00, 11:45, and 1:30 on Sunday

·        Materials and Shelving units will be transferable to new facilities

·        Discussion on the exits in the basement and how to monitor and maintain for safety issues

·        Becky will address security issues

·        Bathroom will have a changing table

·        Nursery will conform to standard guidelines for this type of facility

·        Donations will be requested for many of the needed materials

·        Salary for employees will be a part of the operating budget

·        Parishioner, Maxine, will be asked to obtain wholesale pricing for shelving units or other needed materials to finish the nursery

 

Think Tank:

·        Council reviewed the sheet in bulletin

·        Currently we are set to print every six months, will be quarterly in the future

·        Capital Campaign has been revitalized, Joe Johnson MD will lead the campaign

·        New meeting to be held in March to help determine ways to increase Parish funds

·        Still need to explore new ways to contribute to the Parish: credit card machines, automated draft, etc…

·        Possible stewardship weekend could be planned to help build momentum

 

Other Business:

·        Actively looking to improve grounds and facilities

·        Tree removal has occurred

·        Painting and repair of windows to occur soon

 

CPO:

·        Next meeting to be held on Saturday 21st at 9:00 a.m.

·        Directory is set to be printed by late August

·        Need for Spanish translation on all parish documents and future website developments

 

School:

·        20 student openings for new Pre-K program

·        16 families are already interested

·        March 18th is cut off date for applications

·        Parish verification process is very solid and positive at this point
