COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Together (Planning) and Site/Architect: John Timmons reported for John Benca stating that the number of architects has been narrowed to three per the Archdiocese methods and guidelines. The selection is pending the selection of a site.
Capital Campaign: Pete said that any action or announcements may be deferred until after a site has been selected. It is hoped the campaign can begin in late September or early October
Communications: Pete announced that the sittings for the Photo Directory with Busson have been indefinitely postponed, so as not to interfere with the Capital Campaign.
Pete read a mission statement proposed by the committee. In response, the members of the Parish Council questioned the rationale for a Roman Catholic Parish Church to have an individual mission statement. Father stated that this was not a priority at this time and recommended that we read mission statements of other Catholic parishes. Pete announced that the Life Chain has been scheduled for Oct 23rd.
Maintenance: Jim reported that the materials for the wall construction have been purchased and that the volunteer laborer has prioritized the job in his busy schedule. The yard maintenance is proceeding smoothly including tree pruning.
Finance: There has been no meeting. Father said that we have a new employee who is in training who speaks Spanish.
Liturgy: Father reported that Paul Grutsch will assume leadership of this Committee.
Father hopes to have a monthly family mass.
Latino: Pete reported that last night’s music concert was very successful.
School: Dana encouraged all to support St. Joseph’s School’s Magazine Drive Fundraiser. The school is also using boxtops and Kroger cards for income.
OLD BUSINESS:
Bylaws: Dana reported on the clarifications of the bylaws regarding the logistics of nominating Parish Council Members. A motion was made and seconded to approve the specifications of the first readings (see bylaws).
NEW BUSINESS:
Parish Picnic: Marty reported that the parish picnic at Sandy Creek on Oct. 2cd will include Mass at 11:45, hotdog/hamburger/potluck lunch and family activities. She requested that the parish council members participate as greeters in a ‘get to know you’ activity. All were supportive. A planning meeting will be announced.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Margarita said that the Latino Health Fair will be in October. She noted that the Spanish text in the recent bulletins have had many errors apparently related to literal translations.
Jim announced that the Lighthouse made more than $1000 selling parking spaces during the UGA game yesterday. There was also a voluntary collection from the visitors on a South Carolina bus to assist the hurricane victims. Jim volunteered to contact leaders of other organizations to consider this fundraising activity.
Dana announced that she continues to schedule groups to sponsor the Second Sunday Socials. Jim will contact the leaders of the men’s CRHP re: selling parking spaces to defer the costs of the Second Sunday Social that averages $450.
Rosemary announced that she would update the website to indicate that Rosie Hildebrand heads the Arts and Entertainment Committee and that Lola Gazda heads the Altar Society
Father said that another necessary ministry to consider would be a support group for the divorced and separated parishioners.
The meeting was closed with a prayer by Father McGuiness.
The next Parish Council meeting will be Sunday, Oct 9th at 7:30 PM.
